Charles Tate, 17, is a singer-songwriter and a senior at Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts. His musical influences range from Handel to Crash Kings to Black Dahlia, but his sound is solid acoustic with intricate melodies that weave around his mellow voice.
He will perform a set combining original songs and covers in the third edition of the On Stage at the Lee Burrows series at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council on Saturday.
At MCAA, Tate played the lead, Coalhouse Walker Jr., in MCAA’s production of “Ragtime” last spring. He has performed in many other MCAA productions as well, including “The Music Man” in 2010, where he portrayed Marcellus.
“The school allows me to get up and perform my stuff on Fridays in front of the entire school,” Tate said.

Spyware, viruses and other kinds of malicious code are everywhere you look. While you work to download everything legally, in spite of the temptation to do otherwise, sometimes even legal downloads have nasty attachments tacked onto them. You want something great, but you don’t want to lose your computer for it. Even having to go through the messy and annoying virus removal process is a bit of a pain. Last year, DC Comics announced a similar initiative on the Cartoon Network, “DC Nation.” Like DC and Cartoon Network, Disney XD is owned by Marvel’s parent company.
“Marvel Universe block is an incredible animated ride filled with fantastic action and adventure,” said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, in a press release.

When I got my DVD review lists for December, I had a tough time picking them as there were some great ones. But this DVD caught my eye as Leigh Hart is pretty funny as his character ‘That Guy’, and with this show being about world mysteries, I thought it could be pretty interesting. Boy was I wrong! This was a brain numbingly hard show to sit through and watch as the jokes felt both try hard and verging on offensive. And I’m not talking about Sacha Baron Cohen cleverly offensive funny either. Avoid like the plague!
