Movie Review: Paranormal Activity 3 a Creepy, Tense Blast From the Past

Set in the late ’80s, to explore what exactly happened all those years ago, 3 has the most likeable cast by far, some honest laughs and plenty of those patented Paranormal scares.

But the finale (which we won’t spoil), while tense, is extremely uninspired.

Magic Theatre reveals the beauty of ‘The Ugly Duckling’

The Magic Theatre in Yuba City presents “The Ugly Duckling” at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 5.

“‘The Ugly Duckling,’ in spite of the name, has nothing to do with swans or ducklings, ugly or otherwise,” said director Mark Fejta. “It was written by A.A. Milne of ‘Winnie the Pooh’ fame, and it’s unusual for a children’s show: It’s more like a high English comedy of manners.

“The dialog is very witty, and there is a lot of irony in it. But being written by Milne, there also is a subtle, very soft, gentle philosophy to it.”

The play is a tale about a king (Harold Whitson) and queen (Catrina McCaffrey) who are having a hard time marrying-off their daughter, Princess Camilla (Gabrielle Hayes), and the scheme they devise to match her with Prince Simon (Wesley Morse) from a faraway land.

“We have a hysterical scene where the king and the queen are frustrated trying to marry off their hideously ugly daughter,” Fejta said.
